Calle Málaga

Maria, an elderly widow, has lived in Tangier for her whole life. She loves the city with heart and soul. Her daughter Clara comes to visit her with bad news. She wants to sell Maria’s apartment. Maria faces a difficult choice: move in with her daughter in Madrid, or in a retirement home in Tangier.

‘Calle Málaga’ is an ode to growing old without getting old, the perfect film to let the Spanish star with a career spanning six decades, Carmen Maura, shine. This first Spanish-language film by Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani (‘Le bleu du caftan’) premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the public award. The film is Morocco’s Oscar-entry.
