Father (Otec)

We meet Michal on a typical weekday morning. After his workout, he prepares for a stressful day at the office. Today, however, his wife Zuzka asks him to also drop their daughter, Dominika, off at daycare. The ongoing heatwave makes it difficult for him to keep a cool head, but he throws himself into his work. It is only in the afternoon that he is struck by the terrible realization that he has left his daughter locked inside the car.

‘Father’ is a heartbreaking film about guilt, grief, and forgiveness. The film premiered in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival and was selected as the Slovakian entry for the Oscars. ‘Nightsiren’, Tereza Nvotová’s debut film, was also featured in the FFO program in 2023.
