Short film competition

Many young talented directors take their first steps in filmmaking through short films. FFO also gives new creators the chance to present fresh, surprising and aesthetic productions to the general public. Since 2018, FFO has been organizing a Flemish short film competition.

Eligibility

The following short films are eligible for the competition: all short films (fiction, animation, documentary or experimental) that are officially recognised as predominantly Flemish (hereinafter called film), or whose director is Flemish. Both professional work and graduation films have a chance of selection.

Eligible short films are a maximum of 30 minutes long and have not yet had their Flemish premiere at another film festival or online platform in Flanders.

How to participate?

Registration for next edition is not yet possible.

Jury

Every year, a jury is composed of a diverse group of professionals active in the film industry. The jury chooses its favourite from a selection of eight short films.

Prizes

The eight people selected will not only see the premiere of their film on the big screen. Thanks to our partners, they also have the chance to win numerous prizes:

  • a cash prize of 2,500 EUR donated by Amplo
  • a post-production package donated by Flow
  • a material support of 12,000 EUR donated by Camalot

Moreover, the winners will also be programmed during the festival. That way, everyone can get to know the work of both Flemish up-and-coming talents and established names.
