The end of World War II is finally in sight in spring 1945. On the German Wadden island Amrum, the 12-year-old Nanning searches day and night for food for his family. He fishes in the North Sea, works the land and searches shops for milk, butter, or bread. Despite the many challenges, life almost feels heavenly. However, more and more moral and ideological conflicts begin to surface. Who should he consider a friend, and who an enemy?
Faith Akin already won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival with his film ‘Head-On’. With ‘Amrum’, he once again joins forces with screenwriter Hark Bohm, on whose childhood memories this story is based. They call this story “a journey into the depths of a German soul.” The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
