Thirteen-year-old Karolína and her sister earn a place in a world-famous girl choir. Her unique voice catches the attention of the enigmatic but admirable choir director Machá. Karolína feels honored by this privilege, but it soon becomes clear that she will have to pay a heavy price. In ‘Broken Voices’, documentary director Ondřej Provazník explores the fine line between innocence and abuse of power. Once again, he opts for a socially engaged narrative style that interweaves personal trauma with a broader social context. The film is inspired by a true story of the Bambini di Praga scandal, a serious abuse case involving Czech girls’ choir between 1984 and 2003.
