After the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, North and South Vietnam were reunited under communist rule. During this tumultuous period of recovery and change, a young, ambitious translator moves to Saigon. He is working on a new translation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's ‘The Little Prince’. When he moves into a ramshackle apartment building, he meets Ky Nam, an elderly widow from the south. The two residents seem to come from two different worlds, but slowly grow closer to each other. ‘Ky Nam In’ is a film about longing for collection, beauty, and liberation. The romantic tension is expressed through glances, silences, and a shared feeling of isolation. This tender, poetic drama is reminiscent of ‘In the Mood for Love’. Moreover, the detailed sets, captured on 35mm film, are a feast for the eyes.
