Sundays (Los domingos)

Seventeen-year-old Ainara is an intelligent and idealistic young woman. Everyone around her expects her to go to university without any problems, but she herself seems more drawn to a contemplative life as a nun. That choice provokes mixed reactions. Her father has his doubts, but wants to support his daughter nonetheless. Her atheist aunt Maite sees things completely differently. She believes her niece is about to throw her life away. The Spanish director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa tells a story about family tensions and the struggle between faith and freedom. ‘Los domingos’ triumphed at the San Sebastián Film Festival and won five awards, including the Golden Shell for Best Film.
