Donkey Days

From an early age, sisters Anna and Charlotte fought for the attention of their mother. The mutual rivalry weighs heavily, even on their personal life. When they return to their childhood home after the death of their mother, their carefully constructed survival strategy slowly falls apart. Their mother kept a lot of secrets; ranging from a mysterious urn to an inexplicable love for a donkey. While they reminisce and search answers, reconciliation seems to be within reach.

The Dutch director Rosanne Pel focuses with ‘Donkey Days’ on fragile family relationships under a veil of black humor. The film premiered in the first competition at the Locarno Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Film award.
