In the year 1542, an expedition to the New world sets sails. Seventeen-year-old Marguerite de la Rocque is there, because soon she has to marry the commander, who is also her uncle. Everything changes when she meets crew member Thomas. He takes advantage of the situation, and abandons her while she is pregnant. As punishment, Marguerite is left, together with Thomas and a maid on a deserted island at the coastline of Newfoundland. For two years, they must fight to stay alive, enduring a constant hunger, bitter cold, and overwhelming despair.

The Belgian director Micha Wald was inspired, for his third film, by the true story of Marguerite de la Rocque. ‘L’île de la demoiselle’ is not only a biopic, but also an exciting adventure film with an historical backdrop.
