I Swear

Life is good for John: he is well-liked in his community, doing well at high school, and dreams about becoming a professional soccer player. But when he finds out that a soccer scout is coming to his soccer game, he suddenly starts to experience strange tics. What’s more, he keeps shouting inappropriate things. A little later, he is diagnosed with the Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. But in 80s Scotland, the syndrome is largely unknown and the young man experiences a lot of misunderstandings.

This funny and moving film was inspired by the life of Tourette’s activist Davidson. Through his documentary ‘John's Not Mad’ he taught an entire nation about living with Tourette's. ‘I Swear’ premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
