In the run-up to his impending death, writer George Orwell lives on the British island Jura. He looks back on a life devoted to exposing power and manipulation. As his health deteriorates, he makes progress with his last novel ‘1984’.
‘Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5’ is a poignant documentary about Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), better known as writer George Orwell. Archival footage and diary excerpts - read by actor Damian Lewis (‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘Homeland’) - show how Orwell’s experiences with colonialism, war, and propaganda shaped his prophetic fiction. The documentary was written and directed by Raoul Peck (‘I am Not Your Negro’) and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
