At the height of his career, celebrated theatre maker, filmmaker, and writer, Marcel Pagnol is commissioned to write a literary column about his own childhood, his beloved Provence, and his first loves. As he begins writing, he is joined by little Marcel, the child he once was. Words begin to flow and memories surface: the first sound film, big film studios, and his deep friendships with actors. A born storyteller becomes the hero of his own story.

Director Sylvain Chomet allows Pagnol to walk through his own life. He shows a writer who doubts, stumbles, and ultimately rises again. Archival footage and breathtaking animation seamlessly flow together. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
