The name Helmut Lotigiers may not immediately ring a bell, but the slightly more exotic variant, Helmut Lotti, is famous in Belgium and far beyond. At the age of nineteen, he became known for his participation in the Soundmixshow as an Elvis impersonator, but in 1995 he made his international breakthrough with his ‘Helmut Lotti Goes Classic’ albums. Thirty years later, the Belgian singer can look back on an impressive career spanning a wide range of genres: from classical to rock ‘n’ roll, and from Dutch-language to metal. But who is Helmut, and who is Lotti?
Belgian documentary maker Annabel Verbeke (‘Four Seasons in a Day’) interweaves archive footage and interviews with a unique look behind the scenes. This documentary explores the inherent tension between Helmut the man and Lotti the artist.
